MELT CHAMBER GRANULATE
Manufacture / Origin
Melt chamber granulate is a residue of hard coal combustion (melt chamber firing). Even after preparation, the hard coal supplied also still includes natural, non-flammable rock contents, which are ground together with the fuel and conveyed to the combustion chamber. The coal burns there at the prevailing temperature of approximately 1600°C; the non-flammable mineral contents melt. They are cooled in a water container. As a result of the high internal stress, they shatter into glass-type, angular grains, approx. zero to ten millimetres in size. Basically the "origin history" of the melt chamber granulate has a high degree of similarity to the natural origin of effusive rocks, such as e.g. basalt: liquid magma (nothing other than melted minerals) is suddenly brought to the earth's surface and freezes there so rapidly e.g. in the sea, that hardly any large crystals are formed.
